To witness her father, Bill de Blasio, be sworn in as mayor just after midnight on January 1, Chiara de Blasio wore a strange, conical hat (maybe in honor of New Year’s Eve?) that neither covered her ears nor appeared to keep her head warm. Perhaps to balance out the eye-catching hat, she chose a Nanette Lepore leopard-printed coat from the five options the designer sent her, which she also wore to the inauguration later that day.

Her mother, Chirlane McCray, also chose a Nanette Lepore ensemble. Instead of sticking with her go-to designer, Anni Kuan, she opted for Lepore’s Skyscape coat in a bright, plummy hue for the inauguration. Of the choice to wear Lepore, McCray said the pair were “proud to wear this beautiful clothing that was made right here in New York City. This city needs more creative entrepreneurs like Nanette Lepore who are committed to keeping our city’s garment industry thriving.” Hear that, Parsons grads?
