The Baader-Meinhof phenomenon dominating Drew Barrymore’s life is the heart. She has titled her photography book Find It in Everything, and it’s the story of a heart-shaped haunting.
But in what sorts of places did Drew Barrymore locate cardioids?
She found a heart in a rip on a shirt and on a blueberry pancake trying to flirt. On a gravestone on her way home, in some kielbasa in her casa. In the pattern of a rug, and a puppy looking snug. A crumpled straw wrapper, a cloud splatter. She saw one on a door, she saw one on the floor. One was on her friend’s cheek, another was on an antique. It was the scallion in her miso soup, a rubber band that made a loop. And, oh sweetie, have you ever heard of graffiti? One was made by a raw tuna steak, and a handful of hot chili flakes. A heart tattoo — was it a clue? Yes, truly there is a heart on every block, a heart written with some chalk.
And by hook or by crook, she turned them into — yes — a book.
