Katie Couric hosted model Carmen Carrera and Orange Is the New Black actress Laverne Cox for a “Transgender Trailblazers” episode of her daytime talk show yesterday, only to ask a handful of prurient questions about their “private parts” and swiftly get schooled on how not to interview transgender people. Carrera declined to talk to Couric about the status of her transition (they’re called private parts for a reason) while Cox raced through a laundry list of trans issues that ought to take precedence over their genitals, like violence, discrimination, and unemployment. “You’re so well spoken,” Couric replied.
