In a press release, the CFDA announced that Rihanna will receive the Fashion Icon Award at a ceremony on June 2. The award, previously won by Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, and Iman, is given to “an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage.” Will the world ask whether Rihanna should be a fashion icon? Well, considering she pioneered the denim thong and the out-’n-proud nipples and fishnet-shirt look, was the face of Balmain, graced another Vogue cover, and even had Plum Sykes clamoring for a RiRi makeover, we say: sure.
