After visiting Fukushima, the region of Japan where tens of thousands of people remain displaced after the 2011 nuclear disaster, Jimmy Choo decided to do something to help. Choo has announced that he has created six one-off pairs of shoes made from local materials, such as Aizu cotton and Kawamata silk, using local artisanal techniques, with the the goal of spotlighting the region’s unique craftsmanship. The designer, who has focused on a couture line after selling his stake in his namesake brand, will donate the one-of-a-kind shoes to local organizations.
