Banana Republic has tapped Marissa Webb as its new creative director. An interesting choice! The designer left J.Crew, where she served as head of womenswear and accessories for over a decade, to launch a namesake line in 2012. (She will continue to design it, and Banana Republic owner Gap Inc. will take a minority stake in the line.) She begins April 28; her first collection will be the retailer’s summer 2015 lineup. Webb’s appointment seems to indicate that the company is moving in a more high-fashion direction, especially when paired with news of a collaboration with Roland Mouret. We’re excited to see what the Mad Hatter aficionado has in store for Banana Republic — top hats for all, perhaps?
