Jean Paul Gaultier’s absence will definitely be felt on the Paris Fashion Week calendar this season, now that the designer has exited ready-to-wear in order to focus on couture and fragrances. However, Gaultier lovers will be happy to hear that the designer is making a return, of sorts, into the field. Women’s Wear Daily reports that the designer is plotting a capsule collection with the Japanese company Seven & i. He is launching a new brand under the company, and his 50-plus-piece collection will be called Jean Paul Gaultier for Sept Premières. The items will be priced much lower than his namesake ready-to-wear, ranging from $32 to $250. As of now, he has signed on for two seasons. The bad news for those of us Stateside: The line will only be sold in Japan, at several department stores owned by Seven & i, as well as at 7-Eleven convenience stores. Yes, you read that right. If you want to pick up some sailor stripes with your Slurpee, you’ll have to buy a plane ticket.
