The Cannes Film Festival Wants Women to Suffer

Yesterday in Cannes, Salma Hayek appeared on a panel to talk about misogyny in Hollywood. Today, we see that misogyny in action: The festival’s organizers have banned women from wearing anything other than high heels on the red carpet, Screen Daily reports. A group of women who arrived at a screening for Cate Blanchett’s latest film, Carol, were reportedly turned away because of their flat shoes — which immediately spawned a #showmeyourflats hashtag in solidarity. But perhaps it’s Emily Blunt who put it best: “Everyone should wear flats to be honest. We shouldn’t be wearing high heels anyways. That’s my point of view. I just prefer wearing Converse sneakers.”
