World Cup Winner Megan Rapinoe Is Triumphantly Gay on SportsCenter

Following the U.S. Women’s National Team’s dominant World Cup victory, ESPN invited star players Abby Wambach, Megan Rapinoe, and Ali Krieger to appear on SportsCenter yesterday. When asked to write one word describing herself, midfielder Rapinoe scrawled, “GAAAAY :)” and bellowed it in triumphant fashion, as you’ll observe in this amazing Vine.

Three members of the team are openly gay: Rapinoe, Wambach, and head coach Jill Ellis. We can only hope that the charming Rapinoe will wave a rainbow flag alongside the stars and stripes at today’s historic ticker-tape parade in New York. As Manhattan borough president Gale Brewer wrote to Mayor de Blasio while petitioning for the parade, “Our newest soccer champions represent an opportunity for New York to recognize that heroes and role models come in all genders.” And, all sexualities. YAAAAY :)
