Sometime before Tom Hardy became Tom Hardy, he let someone take several photos of him in his underwear and put them on MySpace. They are slightly disturbing, hard to look at, harder to look away from, and have been circulating online for a while now.
Now, because Tom Hardy is Tom Hardy, he doesn’t feel any shame regarding those photos (not even the one where he has a pornstache). He tells Sky News that he was proud to be in his “tighty-whitey budgie smugglers.”
What? What quaint British slang are you using to describe your nut-huggers, Hardy? What exactly does it mean? Well, according to a cross-search of Urban Dictionary and Cambridge Dictionaries Online, budgie smuggler is Australian (basically British) for “men’s tight-fitting Speedo-style swimwear. The ‘lump in the front’ apparently resembles a budgie when it is stuffed down someone’s shorts.”
According to the online dictionary, budgie is British slang for a small, brightly colored bird often kept as a pet.
To translate: Tom Hardy wears underwear so formfitting, his penile silhouette resembles a small bird pet. We’re still unsure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
