Annie Leibovitz should take a gorgeously lit selfie; it would surely fit in with her collection of iconic women and trailblazers. The photographer of the stars and accredited badass revealed a new show this week, “Women: New Portraits,” at the Wappinghouse Hydrolic Power Station in London, reported Vogue.
The world-tour exhibition features 100 noteworthy women from Queen Elizabeth, Michelle Obama, and Jane Goodall to Adele, Lupita Nyong’o, and the Kardashians.
And this has been a definitive work in progress. Leibovitz published a book of photos called Women in 1999 with Susan Sontag and has since updated her collection with important female figures of new generations. We’re talking a stunning classic shot of Gloria Steinem and a recently added, poignantly real portrait of Amy Schumer — a.k.a., #squadgoals. Seriously, that hashtag applies to this entire project.
At the opening event, Leibovitz commented that her work reflected the varied personalities and bodies of women everywhere. “It’s what we look like and what we do,” she said. “We’re all people.” That quote alone is worth framing.
