At Paris Fashion Week, the Velvet Rope Is Made of Model Hair

We’re recapping our five favorite moments from each day of Paris Fashion Week. Below: the best, prettiest, and weirdest things we saw over the weekend.

1. The hair at Haider Ackermann. Hairstylist Kamo Katsuya created velvet-rope hair by taking velvet scraps from the fall collection and wrapping them tightly around small sections of hair. The hair antlers were worth the potential tension headaches.

2. BALENCIAGA! The most anticipated show of the weekend, and really all of Paris Fashion Week, was Demna Gvasalia’s debut for Balenciaga. We were into it, specifically the beginning and end of the show. Great, cool outerwear stood out as the pieces to want and came in pop colors and exaggerated silhouettes; they were even worn over a jewel-encrusted slim top.

3. Comme des Garçons went punk. Referencing “18th-century punk,” Rei Kawakubo’s amazing collection included florals and jacquards from Lyon that were reproduced and pieced into modern Marie Antoinette shapes. A remixed Nutcracker soundtrack and pink ruffled Anna Cleveland (her first CdG show) took the cake.

4. Sunday-night fever. After a relatively quiet start to Paris, the schedule was packed Sunday night. All post-Givenchy, we bopped around to have cocktails with Irene Neuwirth, said hello to Thom Browne at an intimate get-together for A magazine at editor Linda Loppa’s home, and finally stopped by a candlelit affair in honor of Joseph Altuzarra and his capsule collection for Matches Fashion (hitting the site in April).

5. We had jewelry envy. At Gagosian Gallery for the Repossi presentation, models sat in a circle wearing earrings we are still thinking about: wonderful hoops in varied size worn together, in diamonds and in gold, and a loopy style that wrapped around the ear.
