Women purchase makeup for all sorts of reasons: to enhance, to experiment, to cap off a look. Shirley Manson of the band Garbage buys it for only one: to send you shuttling in the opposite direction.
“I will wear any kind of black eyeliner I can get my hands on,” she explained in an interview with Billboard. “I used to burn coals in a tin until they turned into a liquid and apply using a cocktail stick. I like my makeup bold, and I wear it not to attract but repel.”
