Finally, Some Real Housewives Drama (on Twitter)

This season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was a slog to nowhere. The central plot point was that there was no plot point. (“There goes our fucking story line!” Lisa Rinna repeated several times during the reunion show, for reasons that remain unclear to me still.) Thank Mercury retrograde, then, for the gorgeous freakin’ drama that unfolded on Twitter this past weekend in the 90210.

Our story begins with Rebecca Romijn appearing on Entertainment Tonight, for some reason. The ex-model and ex-wife of John Stamos — who is not a Housewife, yet — went on the show last week to say some rude things about today’s supermodels. When asked about “the new generation of models such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid,” she unleashed the following tirade:

No one has proven yet that numbers of followers translates to revenue, so it is frustrating. I know a lot of people – legitimate fashion people – can’t stand it. Hate it that these, you know, social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion. They are not true supermodels. And the thing is, I have always looked to Vogue magazine to lead the way, not be a follower. … So I have been disappointed that fashion magazines have been supporting this trend of social media stars to set our style standards.

Since this statement was made by Rebecca Romijn on Entertainment Tonight, Gigi and Kendall probably weren’t aware of it until Rebecca got on Twitter and @-ed them, claiming … she didn’t say what she said.

Enter Real Housewife Yolanda Hadid (née van den Herik, previously Foster, now Hadid again for fun), the Real Mom of Gigi Hadid. In one tweet, she blasted Ms. Romijn into space:

Perhaps Rebecca should be cast in the next season of Beverly Hills.

She desperately would like to be, anyway.
