Leslie Jones popped by Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update to share some insight on finding success after years of rising and grinding, or just, you know, figuring it all out.
There’s this motivational video going around Facebook called “It’s Never Too Late” that features all your favorite famous people and what they were doing in their twenties, and it wasn’t so hot. It’s easy to assume that if you don’t have a book deal or web series or HBO show by the time you’re 25, you might as well throw in the towel, but Leslie Jones knows it isn’t so.
“The first part of my twenties is like a sexual blur,” she joked, which doesn’t sound too bad, to be honest. “Then I was fired from some temp jobs, UPS, but I’m glad I got fired! Lorne Michaels created SNL 41 years ago, but maybe if he had got fired like Oprah, he wouldn’t still be working the same damn job.”
Like so many people, Jones futzed around a lot before she found her calling, and now she’s 48 and a major player on SNL and co-starring in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, which has already resulted in a veritable ocean of male tears.
That’s what I call success!
