“Did you see her walk? Runway walk,” MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews muttered as Melania Trump made her way toward her husband’s podium for his victory speech in Indiana. “My God is that good. I could watch that runway show.” Matthews didn’t know it, but his mike was on, and his comments were broadcast live to thousands of viewers. MSNBC quickly cut to commercial, but the damage was done.
Melania Trump has had to deal with comments like these — and probably much worse — during her husband’s presidential run. But in an interview with DuJour magazine, she gave Matthews an out with one of the oldest excuses in the book: “I would just say, men will be men.”
To be fair, she also called Matthews “unbelievable” and insisted, “I’m not only a beauty; I’m smart. I have brains. I’m intelligent.” But she reportedly used the same “men will be men” excuse to brush off the Donald’s appearances on Howard Stern’s radio show in the ‘90s — in one memorable segment, Stern asked Trump if he’d stay with Melania if she was in a car accident, and he answered, “How do the breasts look?”
