Imagine meeting Taylor Swift. She enunciates the words “so nice to meet youuu” and flattens her face into a smile. She gives you a big hug, because she’s a hugger. Maybe she says something a little goofy like, “You remind me of my Nana!” Maybe she touches your hair.
Britney Spears experienced some version of this back in 2008 and decided to never speak of it again.
In an interview on Australia’s KIIS radio this week, host “Jackie O” asked Britney a difficult question about the famously friendly pop star and her sworn enemy: “Who would you rather sit next to on a 24-hour flight to Sydney: Taylor Swift or Katy Perry?”
Britney responded diplomatically, with a lie.
“I don’t know! I don’t know, it’s hard,” she said. “They’re both so cool. I don’t know … Maybe because I’ve met Katy Perry, I would say Taylor Swift, because I’ve never met her before.”
The photographic evidence above indicates that Britney has met Taylor at least once, at the 2008 MTV VMAs. TMZ reports that she met Taylor another time before that, as well.
For whatever reason, Britney would prefer not to discuss those incidents.
