A movie bound to inspire women, African-Americans, math nerds, and people who have hearts, Hidden Figures tells the real-life story of three mathematicians whose work was instrumental in launching John Glenn into orbit in 1962. The brilliant NASA whizzes, Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), bucked both gender and racial prejudices to accomplish their portion of the mission. Hidden Figures screened footage at the Toronto International Film Festival and held a Q&A where Taraji P. Henson was so moved she teared up. After an Oscar-qualifying run in December, the film opens wide January 13, 2017.
