New York’s Most Practical Woman Will Only Date Guys With High Credit Scores

On Thursday, the New York Post featured tales of women who take credit scores into account in their romantic lives. Take Martina Paillant, a Brooklyn resident who refuses to date anyone with a credit score under 700. “I have no student loans and I can already take care of myself financially,” the graduate student said. “I need a man who can take care of himself, too.” And so, she finds out a man’s credit score by the fourth date.

Though this is presented as some sort of crazy high-maintenance deal-breaker, or a roadblock in the way of true love, it’s actually pretty practical. (I mean, think of all the times you wrote someone off immediately for wearing flip-flops or dropping the word “wanderlust.”)

And, “a man’s credit score has nothing to do with his income,” finance expert Lynnette Khalfani-Cox explained. “It tells the person’s level of fiscal responsibility and how they’ve handled past obligations. A person with a high credit score shows they’re trustworthy, responsible, and reliable with their finances.” And yes, there is a credit-specific dating site available for you to peruse.

In lieu of dinner and a movie, may we suggest freecreditreport.com and chill?
