Before ZZ Top sullied their reputation as a classy alternative to the more mainstream diamond, I’ve always thought fondly of pearls. Princess Diana danced with John Travolta in a famous pearl choker. Anne of Green Gables accepted the proposal to become Mrs. Gilbert Blythe with an engagement ring of pearls. The most ostentatious pearl in existence, La Peregrina, belonged to Elizabeth Taylor and sold for $11.8 million. Inspired by the pearl’s classy history, legendary manicurist Jin Soon Choi created her new Pearl nail-color collection. A trio of three shades including a gold, metallic black, and white, each a nod to the pearl’s smooth elegance. Of the three, my favorite is Akoya, a creamy ivory. Unlike many white polishes, this one doesn’t look chalky or too preppy. Rather, the iridescent shade makes nails gleam and glow. Very Mikimoto-worthy.
