Tatcha Beauty’s popular and frequently sold-out (there’s currently one on eBay for $85) Silk Lipsticks will be rereleased in three hues this month. The universally flattering shades, Kyoto Red, Sunrise Plum Blossom, and Twilight Cherry Blossom are homages to some of Kyoto’s most colorful springtime sights.
Kyoto Red, inspired by the city’s brightly painted Buddhist temples, comes in a matte formula, while the floral colors, Sunrise Plum Blossom and Twilight Cherry Blossom, are more sheer and lustrous. Each is infused with softening silk extracts for a creamy application, as well as flecks of 23-karat gold for an added touch of glamour. The buildable lipsticks are designed with diamond-shaped faceted edges, making a clean line achievable without lip liner. The bespoke metalwork on the packaging is inspired by the 17th-century Japanese school of art called Rinpa, a naturalist aesthetic that often used gold and metallic colors as backdrops.
Tatcha will also bring back the limited-edition Kyoto Red Tinted Lip Oil, which can be swiped on top of the Silk Lipstick in the same shade for a glossy geisha pout.
