Just a week after giving birth to her first child, Meghan Markle is celebrating her first Mother’s Day. She and Prince Harry welcomed their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor earlier this week, making their debut as a family of three on Wednesday.
To honor the Duchess of Sussex and mothers all over the world, the Instagram account for the Duke and Duchess posted a tribute “paying tribute to all mothers today — past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered.”
“We honor and celebrate each and every one of you,” it continued. “Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe.”
The post was accompanied by a photo of Meghan cradling baby Archie, who has reportedly not yet been given a royal title. According to reporters, the picture was taken at Meghan and Harry’s new home, Frogmore Cottage. In addition to featuring Archie’s little feet and Meghan’s hand, the photo also includes forget me nots, which were Princess Diana’s favorite flower.
The post ended with a quote from the poem “lands” by Nayyirah Waheed, a black woman who has written two books of poetry. Waheed is known for posting short pieces of her work to Instagram and Twitter. The poem that was shared in the Sussex’s post was a snippet from Waheed’s book salt.
