Few designers are better at combining the gorgeous and the grisly than Miuccia Prada. There’s even a French phrase used to describe her twisted sense of style: jolie laide, or pretty ugly. Her fall show for Prada was a perfect example of this. Inspired by the Bride of Frankenstein, the collection included plenty of delicate flowers — but they were all wilted and dying. The final look combined a very feminine light-blue evening dress with dark-black lace and combat boots.
Accessories from Miu Miu’s spring 2019 show, pictured above, embody a similar sense of girly toughness.
