Ever since Anna Wintour got involved with the Tony Awards, its red carpet has become increasingly glamorous, encroaching on that of the Oscars, the Golden Globes, and maybe even the Met Gala. It helps that there’s been some much-needed talent crossover between Broadway and Hollywood — just look at Billy Porter, who attended all four events.
On Sunday night, Porter once again stole the show, wearing the actual red curtain from Kinky Boots fashioned into a long couture suit. Broadway mogul Jordan Roth looked similar in a textured red Givenchy Couture cape.
This year also marked a number of historical occasions. Hadestown became the first production written and directed by women to win best musical. And André De Shields won his first Tony at the age of 73 for his role as Hermes in Hadestown. Fittingly, the sneakers he wore on the red carpet came with their own set of wings, and were just as shiny as his prize.
Below, the top 11 looks from the night.
