Today in news conjured in a laboratory specifically for us: Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are making the Barbie movie! Per The Hollywood Reporter, the couple behind Frances Ha, Mistress America, and their as yet untitled baby will write the long-gestating Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie. Gerwig, who is currently finishing making our dreams come true with Little Women, is also considering directing the film.
Once upon a time, Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway were attached to star as Barbie, and both Alethea Jones and Patty Jenkins were in talks to direct. The Gerwig-Baumbach Barbie will certainly involve mommy issues and daddy issues and will also probably be a perfect film.
