Did you feel something in the air change? Perhaps a little bit of magic and awe? Can you feel … the love tonight? Well, that’s probably because Meghan Markle and Beyoncé have finally met in person. The two were seen chatting at the London premiere of Disney’s The Lion King on July 14, probably talking about how amazing they both are.
Royal correspondent Rebecca English posted videos of the two, ahem, royals’ interaction on Twitter, saying there was “lots of baby chat” between Markle, Prince Harry, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z.
Markle attended the event alongside her husband a day after cheering on close friend Serena Williams at Wimbledon. While the former Suits actress has probably attended her fair share of movie premieres, this marks her first red-carpet appearance as the Duchess of Sussex.
For the event, Markle wore a black, tea-length Jason Wu dress with sheer sleeves, as Fashionista reports. According to Meghan’s Mirror, she accessorized with Aquazzura heels, a Gucci clutch, and 18K diamond and black enamel earrings from Nikos Koulis.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé, who plays Nala in the film, opted for a yellow, asymmetrical Cong Tri gown featuring a thigh-high slit.
While this appears to be the first time the two women have met, at least publicly, Bey hasn’t been afraid to show her admiration for the duchess in the past. During her and Jay-Z’s BRIT Awards acceptance video in February, she posed in front of a portrait of Markle. “In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,” Beyoncé wrote on her Instagram. “Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”
Leading up to this life-changing (for all of us) meeting, royal commentator Justin Sylvester speculated that there would backlash for Markle. “If she takes a photo with Beyoncé everyone’s going to say ‘she’s so Hollywood, this is not what Royals do.’ If she doesn’t take the photo with Beyoncé everyone is going to say ‘she snubbed her, she’s too good for her,’” Sylvester told E! News. “I just think she’s doomed, like she’s damned if she does and she’s damned if she doesn’t.”
Clearly, Markle was unbothered by Sylvester’s warning. Can’t wait to see more of these two enjoying each other’s company.
