Yesterday at Fashion Week, attendees were subjected to a day full of rain, but that didn’t stop them from turning out head-to-toe looks. Photographer Liisa Jokinen (the founder of Gem and the lens behind Hel Looks and NYC Looks) caught plenty of stylish people outside shows for Jonathan Simkhai, Just in XX, Dion Lee, and Anna Sui. Scroll down to see 18 of them — including stylists, writers, influencers, and designers — explain how they decided what to wear to the shows.
Alice Barbier and JS Roques, Digital Content Creators, 30
Alice: “I’m wearing a Tibi jacket, Materiel Tsibili trousers, a Maison Margiela bag, and Fendi shoes.”
JS: “I’m wearing a Dior shirt and bag and Issey Miyake trousers. We’re all about matching outfits and playing with colors and volumes. We get inspired by everything around us — what we see on the street, architecture, art, and what we see on the catwalks, too.”

Edith Ho, Fashion Student, 19
“My jacket is from Off-White, my blazer from a Japanese designer brand, and my jumper is from Juicy Couture. Japanese street style is my style philosophy, and I’m inspired by the Parsons School of Design and the city.”

Dusty, Stylist and Model, 29
“My style depends on where I’m going and what mood I’m in. I gather inspiration from my upbringing and who I am today.”
Taylor Crawford, Fashion Photographer, 25
“My entire outfit is thrifted, but the notable brands that I am wearing are Adidas, London Fog, and Jones New York. What inspires my style is comfortability, Afro-futurism, and frugality.”

Jonzu Jones, Fashion Stylist and Model, 25
“I’m wearing a 0770 collar and belt, an Alexander McQueen coat and boots, Iuri Shubladze clutch, an APM Monaco ear cuff, Vivienne Westwood rings, and Frank Debourge pants. My style philosophy is: Be the authentic you at all times. My inspiration comes from horror movies, video games, and rock and roll.”

Juan Garcia, Pattern and Sample Maker, 22
“I’m wearing a Tallia Uomo houndstooth blazer and an American Bazaar trench-coat. Rule of thumb: When it’s tight, make sure it’s tight in the right places; when it’s loose, make sure it falls in the right places. Dynasty shoulder pads are never not a good look.”

Lebani Osmani, Stylist, 25
“I am wearing a coat from London Fog, sunglasses from Dolce & Gabbana, thrifted tie-dye pants and tank top, and a Danier jacket. Gaming and fashion are two different things I’ve always loved, so a lot of my style draws from my favorite video game and anime characters. My style philosophy is ‘Take the risk or lose the chance.’”

Lo’renzo Hill-White, Image Consultant, 42
“I’m wearing a Gucci cape, a jumpsuit and blazer from Dirty Pineapple, and Saint Laurent boots. I wear what makes me feel good. I live in an apartment that I decorated like a funky retro party pad — it tends to make me turn it up a few notches with my personal style.”

Tahirah Hairston, Editor at Teen Vogue, 29
“I’m wearing a Saks Potts coat, The Row shoes, Toteme pants, and a Wandler bag. I believe in a balance of wearing what makes you feel good and what you’re a little scared to wear in public.”

Malvika Sheth, Digital Content Creator and Talent at Q Model Management L.A., 21
“I’m wearing a Dior choker, Alfani men’s shirt, Uniqlo pants, Alexander McQueen sunglasses, and YSL heels. My style philosophy is classy like Audrey Hepburn but colorful like Iris Apfel. My style is inspired by my (very colorful and ornate) Indian background, and my late grandmother who was a jewelry designer and fashion aficionado.”

Pazia Bermúdez-Silverman, Senior at Brown University, Computer Science and Africana Studies, 22
“My look is mostly thrifted and a mod podge of random accessories. My style is inspired by my family and my life. Definitely a lot comes from my mom and godmothers. I like to thrift because I like the hunt and because while thrifting, I can essentially be the curator of my own style instead of following the look that whatever companies curate for me.”

Jairol Hiroki Santos Endo, Hairdresser, 21
“I bought the top and bottom at a thrift store; the shoes are Allen Edmonds. I don’t have a philosophy, but there isn’t a right or wrong way to do fashion. Just enjoy it.”
