The 2020 Emmy Awards aired without its usual red carpet swarmed with fans and photographers — but that didn’t keep the celebrities down. They still logged on with their skin moisturized, hair styled, and faces beat, and simply documented their own glamour shots and step-and-repeats for all of us to look at on Instagram. From cornrows and cat eyes to various breeds of bangs, here are 11 memorable hair and makeup looks from last night’s scrollable carpet and socially distanced show.

Most Momentous Bangs

Zendaya accepted her history-making Emmy win in a set of curtain bangs. You love to see it.

Most Impressive Glow

Yara Shahidi stopped by with a friendly reminder to drink your water, steam your face, and layer your lip glosses (specifically Bite Beauty’s Cider Donut and Sugar Drizzle.)

Best Red-Carpet Cosplay

With the red carpet absent, Reese Witherspoon channeled its essence with a classic look: nude nails, side-parted Hollywood waves, and the perfect red lip, courtesy of Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrance Lipstick in Elson 2.

Most Powerful Buzz Cut

Sometimes hair designs speak louder than words, and the raised fist Yvonne Orji had cut into her hair did just that.

Most Aspirational Ponytail

Issa Rae’s ponytail was not only butt skimming but impressively full, nicely textured, and very coordinated as it bounced in time behind the nominee. All things more ponytails should aspire to be.

Smoothest Bob

Flyaways? Kerry Washington, her bob, and the bob’s creator, Kim Kimble, don’t know the meaning of the word.

Shiniest Lob

Surprisingly, Rachel Brosnahan’s lob isn’t wearing any highlighter. Stylist Owen Gould actually sprayed it with Dove’s tinted Between Washes Brunette Dry Shampoo as a final touch.

Best Reminder to Stick Things in Your Hair

Props to H.E.R. for keeping one of our favorite pastimes going strong.

Most Impressive Use of Bleach

We’ve seen our fair share of post-lockdown bleach, and Jeremy Pope’s hair was undoubtedly the brightest in the Zoom.

Chillest Curls

Winner Regina King wore an ethereal pile of carefree curls, beautifully crafted by stylist Larry Sims and a slight breeze.

Best Bangs for Men™

Paul Mescal’s fringe was front and center and slightly swoopy for the big night.
