keeping up with the royals

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle kicked off their first Christmas as former senior royals this week by picking up a Christmas tree for their Santa Barbara mansion.

During their trip to a tree barn the couple remained mostly incognito, and were only approached once: when a little boy ran up to Harry thinking that he worked there. “There was one family in there, and their stoked little son ran through the trees up to Harry and asked if he worked here, not knowing who that is,” an employee told People. There’s no word as to how Harry responded, but given his infamous desire to live a sort-of normal life, he was probably delighted.

Typically, this time of year, Meghan and Harry would be forced to go to Sandringham House with the rest of the royal family. (The annual party has been called off due to COVID-19.) There, they would attend multiple church services and, if we believe The Crown, might engage in some posh bloodsports and drinking games. They would also be weighed before and after lunch, a bizarre royal tradition, and exchange “naughty” gifts like white leather toilet seats and shower caps with rude words on them. Looks like Harry and Meghan have something far more low-key planned.
