Because most awards shows have had to take place remotely this year, with celebrities tuning in in from home, the red carpet has gone virtual as well. But that hasn’t stopped celebrities from dressing up. Last night at the 2021 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, stars Zoomed from their couches in head-to-toe luxury looks. To ensure that viewers at home could see their outfits below the waist, they staged photo shoots beforehand in their living rooms, in their backyards, and by the pool. Kerry Washington even got in her pool.
Last year, celebrities at the SAG Awards looked remarkably hot. (Ahem Brad Pitt). But on Sunday night, everyone looked like themselves, which is arguably even hotter. Daniel Kaluuya, for example, seemed cool and comfortable in a pair of purple silk Louis Vuitton pajamas. Glenn Close wore a flowing Oscar de la Renta gown. And Dan Levy showed off his custom oversized suit by the Row.
Red carpet or not, celebrity style can provide a good dose of fashion fantasy. But it’s nice to also see looks that you might actually want to try yourself. Below, 13 standout looks from last night’s virtual ceremony.
Daniel Kaluuya in Louis Vuitton
He may have been at home on his couch, but this look is proof that silk pajamas qualify as black tie and should be worn out of the house.
Dan Levy in the Row
No one does oversize tailoring better than Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Elle Fanning in Gucci
Another relaxed suit, only a lot shinier. Do you think it hurts to sit on so many sequins?
Leslie Odom Jr. in Berluti
Staring at this colorful suit for five seconds or more is clinically proven to lift your mood.
Steven Yeun in Dunhill
This sleek, non-traditional red-carpet look is somewhere in between pajamas and an oversize suit.
Catherine O’Hara in Thom Browne
This combination of a suit and a dress is reminiscent of Billy Porter’s iconic tuxedo gown, only with a different silhouette.
Kerry Washington in Etro
If pajamas can be black tie, so can swimming caps.
Glenn Close in Oscar de la Renta
Imagine being that pole …
Viola Davis in Louis Vuitton
The hedges behind her are sooooo jealous.
Kaley Cuoco in Prabal Gurung
The physical manifestation of the word ‘SPRING’ in all caps.
Josh O’Connor in Loewe
A slightly smaller flower lapel, but just as powerful.
Nicola Coughlan in Christian Siriano
Lady Whistledown is shaking. Oh, wait …
Cate Blanchett in Givenchy
If you told me the face mask was a part of the look, I’d believe you.
