In a video clip from their new podcast, 4D With Demi Lovato, the 28-year-old singer has come out as nonbinary. “Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all,” Lovato said in a series of tweets on Wednesday morning, sharing that they’re changing their pronouns to they/them.

“Over the past year-and-a-half, I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I’ve had the revelation that I identify as nonbinary,” the singer shared. “I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and am still discovering.”

“I want to make it clear that I’m still learning and coming into myself,” Lovato said, adding, “I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson.” In the first episode of 4D With Demi Lovato, Lovato spoke with author and artist Alok Vaid-Menon, whom Lovato describes as “an important voice within the nonbinary community and beyond … Their work to create visibility, equality, and understanding has inspired me on my healing journey.”

In a March interview with Glamour, Lovato spoke about their identity, saying, “When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am.” Lovato also appeared to allude to today’s coming-out video. “I know who I am and what I am, but I’m just waiting until a specific timeline to come out to the world as what I am,” Lovato said at the time. “I’m using this time to really study and educate myself on my journey and what I’m preparing to do.”

“I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones,” said the singer. “Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way.”
