In fashion, there is a made-up season called “pre-fall” that, you guessed it, hits the sweet spot right at the end of August before Labor Day, when you maybe need to throw on a sweater at night, and wake up in the morning to air that’s a little crispier than usual. It’s a transitional period, but also one that sets the tone for the year ahead. What are you going to wear this fall?
That’s a particularly loaded question at the moment, with so much uncertainty still around what life will look like even weeks from now. But this pre-fall collection from Alexander McQueen (above) was designed for a hybrid lifestyle. McQueen was known for his ability to blend traditional Saville Row tailoring with more avant-garde silhouettes and ideas, and this hybrid skirt suit by Sarah Burton does exactly that. Its volume gives it a couture sense of drama and elegance, but the addition of a denim jacket and miniskirt bottom makes it feel youthful and casual as well. Two classic styles come together to make something that feels entirely of the moment — whatever that moment may look like for you.
