Well, it seems Jamie Spears continues to act in Jamie Spears’s best interest. On Monday, Britney’s new lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, filed court documents claiming the singer’s father is trying to “extort” $2 million in compensation in order to step down from his daughter’s conservatorship. This new claim comes just a few weeks after Jamie Spears finally agreed to resign as Britney’s conservator, which, of course, came with caveats. Specifically, Jamie said he would step down “when the time is right.” (Ticktock, Jamie …)
According to Rosengart, as per Variety, Jamie Spears wants Britney’s estate to pay $1.3 million in attorneys’ fees, $500,000 to his former management company, and additional payments to Jamie himself for an undisclosed amount. “Britney Spears will not be extorted,” Rosengart wrote in his court filing. “Mr. Spears’s blatant attempt to barter suspension and removal in exchange for approximately $2 million in payments, on top of the millions already reaped from Ms. Spears’s estate by Mr. Spears and his associates, is a non-starter.”
This new filing essentially means that Rosengart has no interest in negotiating Jamie Spears’s resignation. In fact, he called Jamie’s stipulations for stepping down “inappropriate and unacceptable” in a statement to People. Rosengart is likely hoping for Judge Brenda Penny to order Jamie’s removal from the conservatorship during the next court hearing, which is scheduled to take place September 29.
“Even putting aside the legal issues requiring his prompt removal, if he loves his daughter, Mr. Spears should resign now, today, before he is suspended,” Rosengart told People. “It would be the correct and decent thing to do.” Jamie Spears has yet to publicly address these new allegations.
