guardian of huskies

Leonardo DiCaprio: Good in a Crisis

We recently learned that Leonardo DiCaprio is a guardian of butts, but it turns out he’s even more heroic than we thought — as in, he once jumped into a frozen lake to rescue two dogs, Jack and Jill, the huskies he shares with 24-year-old girlfriend Camila Morrone.

“Basically, they both fell in a frozen lake,” DiCaprio explained during a recent Entertainment Weekly interview with the cast of Don’t Look Up! Apparently, as soon as Leo had rescued one husky — we don’t know if it was Jack or Jill who fell first — the other jumped into the lake. “One started licking the one that was drowning, and then we were all in the lake together,” DiCaprio said.

Co-star Meryl Streep called all of this “sweet.” Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence assured all interested parties that DiCaprio got naked in his car afterwards to warm up. DiCaprio theorized that his dogs may have jumped in because they did not “understand the concept of a frozen lake,” what with living in California and all. For what it’s worth, the huskies — pandemic puppies that DiCaprio and Marrone adopted from Hollywood Huskies back in 2020 — have earned reputations for being chaotic. Jennifer Lawrence called them “psychotic,” and director Adam McKay called them “absolute tornadoes.”

I’ll agree with Meryl Streep and concede that this is, indeed, sweet. I mean, saving dogs from drowning is a genuinely chivalrous thing to do, as opposed to, say, the time DiCaprio argued with McKay against having Meryl Streep’s butt appear in a nude scene, purportedly out of respect, even though she seemed totally cool with it.

Even if you have your doubts about the guy, you have to admit it does seem like he’s pretty good in a crisis.
