Confession: I’ve had a love-hate relationship with eye cream for years. We have a long history of mediocre interactions, but truthfully, forgoing this skin-care step entirely feels wrong. So, I go through the motions of applying it every night but I never expect much in return. Does it even work? That question has crossed my mind many times, usually when I’m sitting in front of my mirror, blending in my eye cream with my ring finger.
I know there’s no cream magical enough to wipe away all signs of dark circles and eye bags, but all I’m asking for is some subtle brightening, skin hydration, and a little de-puffing action. Most of the eye creams I’ve tried in the past give nothing. If you asked me six months ago if eye creams work, I would have said no. If you asked me today, I would say I think so, all thanks to my recent little discovery of the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid and 1% Caffeine Eye Serum. Unlike most eye creams that boast the creamy texture of a heavy moisturizer, this one looks and feels like my favorite hyaluronic acid serum. So, if you’re a former eye cream cynic like I once was, here’s why I think you should give this eye treatment a chance.
The Formula
I have dry skin so my under-eyes follow suit. Luckily, dark circles aren’t a major concern of mine (dark spots are an entirely different story), but I wouldn’t turn down a little under-eye brightening. I also have a nasty habit of staying up well past a reasonable hour so I know under-eye puffiness all too well.
The Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid and 1% Caffeine Eye Serum contains hyaluronic acid and caffeine — two ingredients that are major green flags when it comes to all things eye treatments and creams. You probably know a little about hyaluronic acid; it’s in so many skin-care products because it provides effective hydration and aids in moisture retention. It does the same thing under the eyes and it visibly re-plumps the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines.
In my experience, most eye creams don’t have an issue hydrating, but they fall short with de-puffing and fading dark circles. This is where caffeine comes in and it does a really nice job of reviving tired skin. Caffeine works to re-energize the under-eyes, much like it does for my mood. It does so by boosting blood flow to the area to minimize the appearance of under-eye darkness and de-puffing, per the Journal of Pharmacological and Biophysical Research.
The Applicator
The best part about this eye treatment is the triple metal ball applicator (the lightweight formula is a very close second). It feels cool and soothing on contact and acts as a massager for tired under-eyes. I use the applicator to massage my under-eye area every morning and it makes a noticeable difference in my morning puffiness.
It’s grown to become my favorite part of my morning skin-care routine and I feel like it’s what separates this eye cream from other variations I’ve tried in the past. The combination of the hydrating formula and the cooling applicator, in my opinion, goes the extra mile to address my flaky under-eyes and consistent puffiness.
The Price Point
The price of most eye creams adds to the hate aspect of my love-hate relationship with them. It’s not uncommon for high-end formulas with minuscule amounts of product to cost upward of $70 while offering little to no visible results. There’s a lot I like about this hyaluronic acid eye treatment, a major one of them being that it falls under the $35 price point while offering a luxury experience. Plus, take into account that you can buy it at any drugstore or online to have it delivered to your doorstep to use a day later. What’s not to love?
Final Thoughts
Since making this eye treatment a mainstay in my morning and nighttime skin-care routines, I’ve noticed a big difference in the appearance of my under-eyes and their overall hydration levels. Dry under-eyes are hard to hide — don’t even think about applying under-eye concealer because it will only emphasize the dry flakes and crackly texture. My concealer applies and looks so much smoother since adding this serum to my routine because that delicate area of skin is now smooth, hydrated, and plump.
The metal ball applicator hides all remnants of my night owl tendencies and I truly look forward to it every morning because it feels so cooling under the eyes. With my eye cream-hating days behind me, I can confidently say I do think eye treatments work when you find the right one, and I’ve found it.
