Broadway icon Billy Porter and Adam Smith are separating after six years of marriage. Whether or not they’ve legally filed for divorce remains unclear, but a representative for the Pose actor told People that the decision to split was “amicable and mutual,” and that Porter and Smith “continue to love and support each other as they embark on their next chapter.”

Porter and Smith first met at a dinner party in 2009 and dated for approximately a year before breaking up. The two remained close friends and got back together in 2015, eventually marrying two years later — 16 days after Porter proposed during a double dinner date in London. “We both grew up in households where who we are is labeled as an abomination,” Porter told People at the time, saying it felt “powerful” just to get their marriage license. He continued, “The thought of marriage — there was no context for it — there was no dreaming about it because there was no context to dream; it was unspoken and very clear that the sanctity of marriage was not for us.”

Porter’s representative said “there will be no further comment” from either party and that they would appreciate privacy at this time.
