No, you’re not going mad — you are in fact seeing a distinctive check all over the streets of Manhattan. Why, you ask? The answer is: Burberry Streets, a series of takeovers by the brand that celebrates the art of discovery and exploration in cities worldwide.
As part of the takeover, you may have noticed a bunch of wild postings around lower Manhattan, depicting Burberry’s holiday campaign (no doubt you stopped to ooh and ahh over the cute pups) along with EKD stencils pasted on sidewalks downtown.
However, the hero of the NYC takeover was the rebrand of iconic NoHo cocktail haunt, Temple Bar, which took place earlier this month. For a week, Temple Bar became Knight Bar, and was outfitted in Burberry’s signature red check, with a special menu for patrons curated by Norman’s — a North London café renowned for its British dishes.
Knight Bar took inspiration from Burberry’s past and present, celebrating the launch of the Knight bag by Daniel Lee for Winter 2023 and the newly redesigned Equestrian Knight Design — an icon of the house since 1901.
For the society page follower in all of us, the brand hosted an exclusive launch event at Knight Bar, a veritable who’s who of the celebrity fashion set, all decked out in variations of Burberry check. Karlie Kloss arrived in head-to-toe green check, while Taylor Hill opted for the neon yellow.
There were also appearances by Stranger Things’ Joe Keery, Bodies Bodies Bodies actress Chase Sui Wonders, Beef actor and heartthrob Young Mazino, the no-intro-needed star Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Ballers actor Mason Gooding. Not to mention Gabrielle Union and Kelela.
The bar was decked out in a Burberry-patterned carpet and plenty of blankets to cozy up in, along with customized match books, menus, and signature cocktails.
Next door to Knight Bar was a unique window installation that draws inspiration from a London street, decorated in the new red Burberry check, bringing a touch of Britishness to the city.
To keep the holiday spirit going, two of the NYC Burberry shops will be offering specialty gifting services. Visit the 5th Avenue Burberry store from December 1-12 and the Soho store between December 13-24 for festive, themed wrapping paper for your newly-snagged gifts, calligraphed cards ready to be personalized, and Burberry-branded wax stamps.
