I’m always on the hunt for a bag that can do it all. As a New Yorker-turned-Chicagoan, I value versatility and comfort. As a style editor, I admire form and aesthetic. And as a new mom, I need practicality and function. All too often, though, uncovering a bag that serves my rotating archetypes in a way that feels organic to my everyday style has seemed like a lost cause. That was, until I met The Sack Bag.
Introduced in 2022, The Sack Bag is the latest addition to the Marc Jacobs handbag universe. It’s crafted from full-grain leather, features a magnetic closure, and comes with a pouch and internal slip pocket for essential organization and impressive spaciousness. As we’ve come to expect from Marc Jacobs, The Sack embraces fashion in an aspirational yet approachable way.
It’s everything a modern carryall should be: Roomy, lightweight, utilitarian, and attractive. Before I even tried The Sack Bag for myself, I noted its potential for cult-bag status — you heard it here first.
Immediately, I was drawn to The Sack’s minimalist, contemporary design and silhouette. It’s structured with just the right amount of slouch. It’s flexible, yet holds its signature shape. The branding is noticeably prominent but tastefully subtle. But as a woman who loves options, what really captured my attention is the bag’s array of sizes, colors, prints, and fabrications.
There’s The Mini Sack, which, although suitable at any time of day, shines brightest at night. It’s a perfect dinner date, holding more than a clutch while still projecting stylish sophistication. Then there’s the standard Sack: A generous carryall that’s as elevated as it is sensible. And finally, the XL, which is essentially a glorified (and chic) everyday catch-all that can hold all you could possibly need in one day and then some. It also makes a great carry-on or travel bag.
Being in the market for a larger bag I can turn to daily, my obvious choices were the standard and XL. The first thing I noticed is how luxurious they look and feel IRL. The internet does not do these bags justice. I filled up the standard size, stood in front of the mirror, and was almost giddy. The bag looked so good and felt comfortable to carry. I couldn’t wait to show it off.
Over the next week, I rotated between the standard and the XL, taking them everywhere I went and collecting compliments along the way: Over happy-hour drinks, in the daycare pickup line, at a trendy brunch spot downtown, working from my local coffee shop, sifting through vintage clothing racks, and wandering the grocery store aisles. When it came to styling, I could do no wrong. Not only did my Sack bags elevate my slouchiest sweats and most boring t-shirts, but they also made every look feel curated and effortlessly stylized.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed — i.e. needed — the extra space. Turns out, carrying my water bottle, laptop, DSLR camera, umbrella, snacks, and reading material — in addition to my everyday essentials — all in one bag (made of leather, mind you, not nylon, cotton, or canvas) is empowering. Don’t fear their size; they are functional statement pieces and intentional outfit-finishers — even on my 5’2” frame. For me, it boils down to their material, silhouette, and the fact that they’re so lightweight. The Sack Bag allowed me to feel put-together and organized, and as the queen of carrying multiple bags at once, I’m finally freed of that exhausting and impractical burden.
Pre-Sack, bringing an ordinary tote bag along for a date night or a quick matcha run had never crossed my mind. Now, as a proud Sack owner, I’ve experienced a more contemporary way — one that doesn’t sacrifice space or style (in fact, it elevates and enhances it). From special occasions to mundane errands, I feel cool and confident carrying my Sack bag in all situations, like I’m ahead of an imaginary style curve and announcing to the world, “You can have it all, you can carry it all, and yes, you can look amazing doing it.” It’s not a proclamation just any bag can inspire.
