We’re not saying Mindy put phone chains on the style map, but we’re not not saying that either. The up-and-coming Parisian singer, known for her popular residency at iconic jazz club La Trompette Bleue, has been wearing a chain on her phone since 2022 when she escaped for a weekend trip to St. Tropez with her best friend Emily. Her ability to discover the most unique accessories is bar none. In fact, she’s the reason we’re constantly decking out our phones with strings of pearls, beaded chains, and colorful straps. Because if anyone can influence us on a stylish statement accessory, it’s Mindy.
And it doesn’t just end at phone enhancements, either — from striking headwear to embellished handbags, she understands the power of standout accessories and wields them like well-placed exclamation points on her outfits. The good news is that we no longer need to admire her looks from afar before frantically Googling the exact pieces; as our guest advice columnist on The Cut this August, we’re welcoming Mindy to our office to share her back-to-school shopping recommendations with us directly. Between noting the fall trends worth trying and how to deck out a dorm room in style, she’s got the best advice. Ahead, get a glimpse at how she shops with Google to discover the best pieces, plus the accessories she’s personally adding to cart.
Dear Mindy,
I’m starting a new internship this fall. Pro: I’ll be getting paid and gaining experience. Con: Corpcore is so not my thing, despite how hard TikTok tries to convince me otherwise. What are some ways I can still maintain my fun and colorful style while dressing appropriately for 9 to 5?
Best,
Don’t Make Me Be a Corporate Girlie
Bonjour Don’t Make Me Be a Corporate Girlie,
I feel you so hard on this! I’m not a corpcore girlie myself, considering I’ve never worked in a traditional office setting, but perhaps that’s what makes me perfect for dishing out fashion advice since I can give you a fresh perspective. It’s always a bummer when you’re required to tone down your creative expression or feel like you’re being sartorially stifled. My answer? Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!
Rather than investing in the office-appropriate version of pieces you like, try shopping for chic accoutrements that you’d rock whether or not you have a job. Listen, if you’re never going to wear trousers outside the office, don’t spend the effort on trying to find a pair that suits your aesthetic; just go basic. Then, invest in accessories that show off your style, enhance any outfit, and that you’d 100 percent wear for the job and for a night out or on the weekend. Honestly, it’s a better use of your money, time, and wardrobe.
Since we share a “fun and colorful” style approach, I think you’ll like some of the accessories I’m currently shopping with Google and adding to my own cart! By being able to see all the options and prices in one place, shopping with Google makes it so convenient to shop for anything and everything; it’s like having every store at your fingertips. One minute, you’re finding an adorable beret, the next minute, you’re discovering an even cuter one with a better price. You can also see which products have good reviews, which come with free shipping, and which even come from a small business. Right now, I’m on the hunt for trendy mesh flats in an unexpected color, metallic and chrome handbags, ’80s-inspired earrings, and anything suede or burgundy. And of course, I can’t forget my signature phone strap — trust me, you can never have too many! All these pieces add big personality and will take even the most basic of outfits from très drab to très fab — even the boring corporate ones. You got this, babe!
Bisous,
Mindy
