In the immortal words of Anne Hathaway, “It came true!” Twelve years after Hathaway won her Oscar, Ariana Grande is now the emotional theater kid being recognized for her performance in a movie musical. In the same category, too! On Thursday, Grande received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Wicked — the film got ten noms total — and she shared a very sweet Instagram post in response.
“I cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise,” Grande wrote, nodding to her and Cynthia Erivo’s tear-filled press tour. “I’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny Ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ just before the big, beautiful bubble entered. I’m so proud of you, tiny.”
Grande also shouted out her director, Jon M. Chu, calling him “the most unbelievably brilliant leader, human being, and most fierce friend.” And, of course, Erivo got mentioned. “Your brilliance is never ending and you deserve every flower (tulip) in every garden,” Grande wrote to her co-star, who received a nomination for Best Actress. “I love you unconditionally, always.”
I highly recommend flipping through all of Grande’s carousel, which starts with a very cute photo of her dressed as Dorothy and ends with her singing “The Wizard and I” as a teenager. Now I’m the one crying!
