What do Cameron Diaz and Barbara Corcoran have in common, other than being beautiful blonde businesswomen? They are both in favor of sleeping in separate beds. Diaz is more into it conceptually, as she revealed last year, but Corcoran is really about that life.
“I think there’s something to be said about your own private space,” Corcoran said on The Jamie Kern Lima Show. “I have a huge family that I’m always entertaining. I have very sincere, active friends, and so what I need more than anything else is a respite, and my husband is not relaxing.”
The Shark Tank star explained that she likes the setup because it ensures that sex is “a short thing.”
“My idea of a special night with my husband is a good game of Scrabble. He’ll often say to me, S or S?’ and I’ll say ‘Scrabble,’ because the first S means sex, and I say, ‘No, Scrabble,’” Corcoran told Lima. “I love beating him at Scrabble, and he loves beating me at Scrabble, and that’s a great night.”
When they do have sex, it’s on Corcoran’s terms. “I have to invite him into my bedroom, and I like it that way. He’s never invited me back because he knows I’ll never come into his bedroom,” she explained. Lima asked if this makes sex better, to which Corcoran repliee, “No, but he thinks it does.”
Corcoran has been married to her husband, Bill Higgins, since 1988, so their setup is obviously working for them. I’m sure it also helps to have millions and millions of dollars, but the separate-rooms thing might be worth trying out if you’re hoping for a long and healthy marriage.
