Now that we’re in the dead of winter and subfreezing temperatures are a daily occurrence, I can’t be bothered to wear button-downs, blazers, or even nice sweaters. Hoodies are the only thing I want to put on my body. But not just any old hoodie will do. No, I only accept the best of the best over here, which is why I searched high and low for the absolute coziest hoodies of the season (and asked fellow Cut editors for their recommendations).
The hoodies on this list fit like a dream; some are oversize, some fit close to the body, but you can’t go wrong with either style. These options from brands such as Aritzia, Gap, Alo Yoga, Nike, and ASOS are made from high-quality fabrics that drape well and won’t fall apart after a year or two. You’ll want to live in them all winter long, trust me.

Our Top Picks
Our current favorite
Material: 78 percent cotton, 22 percent polyester | Colors: 27 | Sizes: XXS-XXL
Deputy style editor Joanna Nikas recommend this Aritzia best-seller to me, and I’m so glad she did. What makes it so special? Well, it has the same slim cut as my longtime favorite hoodie from Alo Yoga (linked below), but the fabric is more lightweight and the fit is more relaxed. This hoodie also has a fleece lining that makes it so snuggly and warm. So basically, it’s the perfect mix of flattering and cozy, and I would like to live in it from now until April.
The best slim-fit hoodie
Material: French Terry | Colors: 5 | Sizes: XXS-XXL
Everyone loves an oversize hoodie, but it’s nice to have a few fitted ones on hand as well; they tend to look more polished, so it’s easier to dress them up when you want be comfy at the office. I usually take a size medium in loungewear, but I own this one in a size small, and the boxy, slim fit is unmatched. I love wearing it with everything from shorts and leggings to jeans and even a silk maxi skirt. It’s made from a breathable terry-cloth material, so it’s perfect for seasonal transition dressing or layering underneath a heavy coat.
The heavy-weight option
Material: 82 percent cotton, 18 percent polyester | Colors: 6 | Sizes: XS-XXL
Gap’s newest hoodie that launched earlier this month feels like a warm hug, thanks to the extra heavyweight fleece that’s nearly triple the weight of the brand’s standard fleece. After feeling the quality and weight of the fabric myself, I can’t believe this hoodie is under $100, because I know it’ll last for years. It’s warm and protective yet super breathable. The fit is oversize with drop shoulders and banded cuffs. Currently, it’s mostly out of stock, but Gap restocks items fairly often, so definitely bookmark this style.
The lightweight one that provides a lot of warmth
Material: 80 percent cotton, 20 percent polyester | Colors: 3 | Sizes: XXS-XL
Lightweight but cozy, this affordable ASOS hoodie is great for lounging. It has a roomy fit and stretchy fabric, plus a drawstring hood and long sleeves. If you like the baggy look, you’ll love this option for day-to-day.
The soft and stretchy hoodie
Material: 95 percent tencel modal, 5 percent spandex | Colors: 9 | Sizes: 00-6/XXS-XXL
Made from sustainable fabric that’s sourced from renewable wood, this hoodie is a favorite of senior shopping editor Bianca Nieves, especially for traveling because it’s incredibly soft and stretchy. The relaxed drape and buttery-smooth feel is similar to that of a cashmere cardigan.

The eco-friendly one
Material: 100% North American reclaimed waste cotton | Colors: 6 | Sizes: XS-XXL
This biodegradable hoodie is not trash, despite the name. It’s actually really good, according to Nieves who’s been wearing it non-stop. The recycled material is nice n’ thick and the kangaroo pocket makes it feel extra cozy.
The hoodie that’s made from recycled fleece
Material: 60 percent cotton, 40 percent recycled polyester | Colors: 2 | Sizes: XS-XL
Nieves also loves this hoodie from RicherPoorer that features a relaxed fit, dropped shoulders, and a wide-set kangaroo pocket. It’s durable and heavy but not overly thick.
The zip-up one
Material: 100 percent cashmere | Colors: 8 | Sizes: XXS-XXL
If you’re looking for a zip-up option, try this 100 percent cashmere option from Aritzia. It’s a Cut Shop favorite, featuring a ribbed trim and close-to-the-body fit that never looks bulky. Dress it up with a pair of jeans or trousers for any daytime occasion.
The classic
Material: 80 percent cotton, 20 percent polyester fleece | Colors: 12 | Sizes: XS-XXL
I’ve been wearing Nike fleece hoodies for as long as I can remember. In fact, the one I currently own has been in my rotation for about ten years — it’s too old and raggedy to include a photo in this story, but not too old and raggedy for me to stop wearing it. All that to say, the quality of Nike hoodies is incredible (especially considering the price point). I also love the extra-long length of this particular style. It can be tucked into jeans or trousers or worn with leggings around the house.
The (other) classic
Material: 58 percent cotton, 42 polyester | Colors: 8 | Sizes: XS-XXL
You can’t go wrong with a classic Carhartt hoodie. This one fits true to size (size up for an oversize fit) and offers both warmth and breathability.
