The Jellyfish Haircut Just Claimed Another Victim

I regret to inform you that one of the worst haircut trends ever might be making a comeback. A few weeks ago at the FireAid Benefit Concert for California Fire Relief and then again tonight on the 2025 Grammys red carpet, Billie Eilish debuted her new jellyfish haircut. (She seems to be hiding it under a hat, but we know what is under there.)

As the name suggests, this style — popularized by celebrities including Nicole Kidman and Kerry Washington back in 2022 — is the bizarre combination of a bob and long hair that just sort of hangs down underneath. The cut creates two distinct layers: The top one resembles the rounded body of a jellyfish, and the bottom one resembles its tentacles. I feel like I’m writing gibberish right now, but this is a real thing, I swear.

Since Eilish’s hair is jet-black at the moment, the cut looks a bit more subtle on her than, say, Gwen Stefani, who hacked off the front pieces of her bright-blonde hair last year. And, actually, the more I look at it, the more I don’t completely hate it. Eilish is innately punk and always doing the unexpected when it comes to her look, so maybe this works? Let us know in the comments.

It’s worth noting that as I was writing this, Miley Cyrus stepped onto the red carpet with — you guessed it — a jellyfish haircut. So I guess this look is officially cool now.
