Blake Lively Was ‘Surprised’ by It Ends With Us Backlash

Blake Lively was just as surprised as the rest of us about how much drama there was surrounding It Ends With Us. In August, as the film was premiering, rumors of a feud between Lively and her director/co-star Justin Baldoni began to take over social media. Lively was accused of taking over the production and making light of the film’s subject matter, Baldoni was accused of fat-shaming Lively on set, and neither party could fully celebrate the fact that their romantic drama about domestic violence was a major box-office hit.

Lively is ready to talk now. Or, at least, a source close to Lively was more than willing to tell People exactly how the star felt. According to them, Lively was “pretty surprised at the backlash and drama” surrounding It Ends With Us.

“She initially felt very vulnerable and upset,” the source told the tabloid. “During the promotion of the movie, not one day went by when she was not in the news in an unfavorable light. She’s just not used to this kind of drama.” I guess that is true (save for her plantation wedding, of course). At this point Lively is most famous for a TV show that ended over ten years ago, looking good at the Met Gala, and her marriage to Ryan Reynolds — even her friendship with Taylor Swift provides nothing but positive attention. Of course, Lively was unprepared to suddenly be despised by a bunch of people on the internet.

The source continued, saying that the situation felt “out of control” for Lively but that she “enjoys working and will continue to push forward projects that she’s excited about.” Good for her. I wonder if that includes the sequel to It Ends With Us (cleverly titled It Starts With Us). For the sake of nosy people who love drama, I really hope it does.
