Chappell Roan has had enough of overbearing fans. On Monday, the singer expressed her frustration with fans who get upset when she refuses to take photos or hug them in public. In two TikTok videos, she described such behavior as “harassment” and “abuse” from “entitled” fans whom she would like to see be more respectful.
“I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous,” Roan said. “I don’t care that it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, the career field I’ve chosen. That does not make it okay. That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I want it. Doesn’t mean that I like it. I don’t. Whatever the fuck you think you’re supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity.”

She went on: “I don’t give a fuck if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time or a hug. That’s not normal. It’s weird. It’s weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make. That’s fucking weird. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior.” In her caption, Roan clarified that she wasn’t responding to any specific incident or directing her words at anyone in particular.
Roan has had a big year, with trending songs and a busy tour. During a June performance in North Carolina, Roan said she was struggling with becoming so famous so quickly, telling the audience, “I think that my career’s just kind of gone really fast and it’s really hard to keep up. And so, I’m just being honest that I’m just having a hard time today.”
