On Sunday, an anonymous group of accusers filed yet another wave of lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs. This round includes an account from a Jane Doe who claims she was drugged and raped by Diddy and another unnamed male celebrity when she was 13 during a VMAs after-party at the music mogul’s house in 2000.
Since the allegations against Diddy broke last fall, years of photos, videos, and interviews of him interacting with his many celebrity friends have come up for renewed scrutiny. In light of these new allegations, the clip raising eyebrows this week shows Diddy inviting then–13-year-old actress Daveigh Chase to an after-party for a different MTV event in 2003. Diddy and his buddy Ashton Kutcher presented Chase, who played Samara Morgan in The Ring, with the Best Villain trophy at the MTV Movie Awards that year. During what’s supposed to be a comical segue bit, Diddy sidles up to her with a drink in his hand and asks if she’s “coming to the after-party tonight.” Chase seems to nod nervously, prompting Diddy to laugh and yell “Yeah!”
Diddy and Kutcher were photographed with Chase again a few months later at VH1’s Big in ’03 Awards. It’s unclear whether they crossed paths after that — and Chase does not appear to be involved in Diddy’s federal case or any of the lawsuits, including ones filed on Sunday by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, who has solicited accusers via a hotline. Diddy has denied all the allegations against him, and his lawyers have accused Buzbee of operating a “reckless media circus.” When Buzbee filed the first batch of lawsuits earlier this month, Diddy’s legal team said that “the truth will be established based on evidence, not speculation.”
