How’s This for Movie Merch?

These days, you can’t release a movie without also churning out a slew of film-inspired merch — or, at bare minimum, a new demented popcorn bucket. As the movie-merch industry hurtles out of control, Nosferatu, the upcoming gothic remake starring Lily Rose-Depp and 5,000 rats, is jostling its way into the fray. Already, we had an Eau de Macabre perfume, a candle, and coffin-shaped popcorn buckets. But now Focus Features has really outdone itself: On Monday, the company announced that for $20,000, you can buy a full-size, 250-pound coffin bed, apparently a replica of a coffin featured in the movie. Finally, the perfect gift for that special someone who desperately needs a good night’s sleep and the curse of eternal life!

You may recognize this coffin from your local AMC theater — many of them have been promoting the film with giant coffin displays — but now it can be yours, carved lion-head handles and all. According to Focus Features’ website, which claims the bed will offer “the best sleep of your life,” it’s made to order and includes a custom-fit mattress and a foam lid “for easy opening at sundown.” Actually, it looks just like the popcorn bucket, except huge and possibly capable of trapping a human inside. Anyone looking for a year of rest and relaxation?
