Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a bit of a rough year. Her jam company failed to take off, his docuseries about polo was called “tedious” and “destined to fall through the submenus into obscurity at the speed of light,” and they’ve been plagued by divorce rumors. Their Christmas card was a chance at redemption, a chance to clap back at all of their haters, and a chance to prove that a Canva Pro subscription is a good investment. Let’s see how they did.

Not too bad, eh? It’s a lovely shade of green. “On behalf of the office of Prince Harry & Meghan” is a little formal, but whatever. From the photos alone, you would never have guessed that these people had kind of a middling year. If you were a normal person whose mind wasn’t consumed with questions about American Riviera Orchard, you could look at this and think that their 2024 was filled with charity work and smiling children and events where they looked fabulous. This, of course, is the whole point of a holiday card for both regular folk and royals. Mission accomplished!

The big news that came out of the card was that we saw a glimpse of their children, Archie and Lilibet (second photo, top row). A People headline read, “Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Holiday Card Features First New Photo of Archie and Lilibet in Years!” That is sort of true, in that we can see the backs of their heads in a photograph taken from 20 feet away. They look like they’re probably really cute from the front.

Overall, this is decent work from the Mountbatten-Markle clan. It would be getting higher marks from me if I hadn’t also seen Prince William and Kate Middleton’s card, which was simple and warm and shared with a charming little snow animation.  There’s always next year for Harry and Meghan.
