Another day, another development in Karla Sofía Gascón’s racist-tweet saga. Days after Zoe Saldaña said she was still “processing” her Emilia Pérez co-star’s resurfaced posts, Selena Gomez has chimed in. On Sunday, while attending the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Sunday, the 32-year-old was asked how she was holding up amid the controversy surrounding the film. Gomez responded that “some of the magic has disappeared.”

“I choose to continue to be proud of what I’ve done, and I’m just grateful,” she added. “I live with no regrets, and I would do this movie over and over again if I could.”

Emilia Pérez’s Oscars campaign first went off the rails last month after writer Sarah Hagi unearthed Gascón’s old Islamophobic, anti-Asian, and anti-Black tweets. Among the small mountain of offensive posts, one screenshot seemed to show Gascón calling Gomez a “rich rat” in a 2022 post. The actress, who is the first openly trans woman nominated for an acting Oscar, denied ever writing the tweet. “It’s not mine, of course; I have never said anything about my colleague,” she told CNN En Español last week.

Elsewhere in her teary CNN sit-down, Gascón insisted that Saldaña and Gomez support her “200 percent.” Judging by both of their recent statements, maybe not?
