J.Crew is on our radar once again. In the last few months, the brand brought back its beloved catalogue (with Demi Moore on the cover) and collaborated with New York–based cool-girl brand Maryam Nassir Zadeh. The brand is now teaming up with CFDA winner Christopher John Rogers for a collection.
So, what exactly is the J.Crew x Christopher John Rogers collaboration?
The J.Crew x Christopher John Rogers collection includes over 30 pieces, such as an A-line dress, a gold lamé barn jacket, a red vinyl topcoat, embroidered hats and tote bags, dresses, skirts, coordinating sets and outerwear. The prices range from $40 for a top to $550 for outerwear. John’s designs are easy to spot: The designer’s vivid, voluminous and bright designs have been worn by everyone from Beyoncé to Tracee Ellis Ross and even Vice-President Kamala Harris. Jones is also not new to the collab scene; just a few years ago, he collaborated with Target for a small collection. The collection features all the glitz, glamour and gowns you’d expect from Rogers but still retains J.Crew’s preppy style. There’s a mix of everyday wearable pieces and standout evening wear.
Do I need this?
Yes. Some pieces are slightly higher than J.Crew’s usual price point but not too far off if you usually shop at the retailer. If you’re a regular J.Crew shopper, your closet might also be full of preppy basics and materials like cotton and cashmere, and this is an easy way to add color and texture. Besides my personal favorites, such as cotton poplin dresses, there are satin tops, pants and jackets, bright red vinyl, and cashmere in his rainbow stripe. Sizing also ranges from XXS to XXL or 3X, depending on the style.
What I tried from the J.Crew x Christopher John Rogers collaboration:
This was the first piece that caught my attention, I have a few statement red items I like to wear but I love how bold this is. I tried ona size 8 and it was comfortable and true to size, but I’d size up for a looser, boxier fit.
I think the shirtdress is a must-have, especially in the print. If you’re under five-foot-five like I am, you might want to get this tailored, but I personally love the drama of the length. I tried a medium, which seemed a little too big, so I’d recommend sizing down for a better fit.
This has a great boxy fit similar to a jean jacket, but the silk makes it look elegant enough to wear with more delicate dresses and the matching bustier top and skirt.
Surprisingly, this was also one of my favorites, though I don’t usually gravitate toward tops like this. It was flattering on but zipping it up is a two-person job and the size 8 seemed just a bit too small.
